Veritas University has become the first university in Africa to formally adopt an ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance framework, marking a significant milestone in the continent’s push for responsible AI development.
The institution sealed the landmark commitment by signing the Humanitas AI Compact, a framework designed to ensure that the development and deployment of AI remain centred on human dignity, ethical values, transparency and accountability.
University officials said the initiative reflects Veritas University’s commitment to harnessing emerging technologies while safeguarding fundamental human rights and promoting responsible innovation in education, research and society.
The move positions the university at the forefront of ethical AI governance in Africa, as institutions worldwide grapple with balancing rapid technological advancement with the need for robust ethical safeguards.
