Peter Obi has launched a scathing critique of Nigeria’s political establishment, accusing beneficiaries of the country’s democracy of undermining the very system that elevated them.

Speaking on the state of the nation, the former presidential candidate said many political actors had become “agents of destruction”, preventing ordinary Nigerians from benefiting from democratic governance.

“Beneficiaries of our democracy have turned themselves into agents of destruction, into agents of what they benefitted no longer being beneficial to other Nigerians,” Obi said.

He pledged to push for political and institutional reforms aimed at reversing the trend, insisting that meaningful change remains achievable despite growing public frustration over governance and economic hardship.

“We are going to reverse this situation, and I assure you that a new Nigeria is possible,” he added.

The remarks are likely to resonate with supporters who view Obi as a leading voice for reform, while also intensifying debate over the direction of Nigeria’s democracy ahead of the 2027 elections.
