Former Nigerian presidential candidate Peter Obi has firmly denied viral social media claims that his son, Oseloka Obi, appears in a series of photos allegedly showing him in a same-sex relationship.
The images, which began trending on X (formerly Twitter), depict two men embracing and celebrating a birthday. One of the individuals was identified by some users as Obi’s son — a claim the politician’s camp says is entirely false.
A northern influencer with the handle @Waspapping_ was among the first to amplify the photos, captioning them: “Peter Obi’s son and his partner are out there enjoying life, but Obidients will turn a blind eye. Well, congratulations to the soon-to-be couple.” The post has since sparked a wave of commentary and speculation online.
Obi’s team swiftly responded to the controversy. In an official statement titled “Fake Picture, False Claim: Obi’s Integrity Remains Untouched,” media aide Valentine Obienyem dismissed the images as misinformation.
“The picture currently being circulated is not that of Mr. Peter Obi’s son,” the statement read. “Having searched every corner of his life and found nothing incriminating, mischief-makers resorted to posting this false image, claiming it to be his son. Let it be clear: this is not his son. They should look elsewhere for the scandal they have fruitlessly hunted for years.”
Peter Obi, who ran for president in Nigeria’s 2023 election under the Labour Party, is widely expected to be a leading contender again in 2027. His campaign and political image have largely been built on a platform of integrity and transparency — values his team insists remain intact despite the latest social media storm.
