Supporters of Bayo Adelabu have staged a protest at the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, demanding that the party adopt direct primary elections to choose its governorship candidate.
The demonstration comes amid heightened political activity within the party as it prepares to release a list of cleared aspirants ahead of the governorship contest. Protesters insist that only a transparent direct primary process can guarantee fairness and internal democracy.
The protest also follows unverified reports suggesting that a consensus candidate may already have been favoured by party leadership, a development that has further deepened tensions among rival camps.
Security was visibly tightened around the party secretariat as supporters voiced their concerns, warning against what they described as attempts to impose a preferred aspirant on the party structure.
The APC is expected to unveil its final list of qualified aspirants in the coming days, a move that could further shape the direction of the highly competitive governorship race in Oyo State.
