A man, accused of impersonating a senior aide to President Bola Tinubu, has been remanded in Kuje Prison following his arraignment in court on Monday.

Abubakar Salisu, who allegedly posed as Hon. Ibrahim Kabir Masari, the Senior Special Assistant to the President, faces several serious charges, including criminal conspiracy, false personation, criminal breach of trust, and cheating. These charges were filed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Muhammad Abdulazeez Ismail at the Zuba Magistrate Court, Salisu pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against him. In the course of the hearing, the prosecution requested a trial date, while Salisu’s defense counsel sought an oral bail application. However, the court rejected the oral bail request, citing that one of the charges is not ordinarily bailable. The defense counsel was advised to file a formal application for bail.

The case has been adjourned to September 15, 2025, for the hearing of the bail application. This development has raised significant concerns about the level of impersonation and fraud within political circles, highlighting the need for stricter identification protocols among government officials.
