Fresh cracks appear to be emerging within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as allegations of internal power tussles and preferential treatment continue to stir tensions among key political figures.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, alleged that former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, threatened to leave the party over claims that the ADC leadership was giving preferential treatment to Peter Obi.
Speaking on the growing internal dynamics within the party, Abdullahi claimed that Obi has wielded considerable influence in recent appointments into the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), particularly in the nomination of key officials.
“I have two deputies under me, and one was nominated by Peter Obi. Amaechi and Atiku cannot point to anyone they nominated into the ADC NWC,” Abdullahi said.
He further revealed that former Minister Osita Chidoka had sought the position of National Organising Secretary but was unsuccessful after the party leadership allegedly reserved the position for Obi to nominate a candidate.
“Osita Chidoka wanted to become the National Organising Secretary, but we gave that position to Obi to nominate someone, alongside several other positions. That was how we lost Osita,” he added.
The remarks are likely to intensify speculation over internal divisions within the ADC, as questions continue to emerge about influence, representation and the balance of power within the party’s leadership structure.
