Victor Osimhen, star striker for the Super Eagles, has shown his appreciation for Remo Stars’ historic Nigeria Premier Football League title win with a generous N10 million gift, split equally between the players and the technical crew. The gesture followed a personal video call to the team.
Coach Daniel Ogunmodede confirmed the news as tributes poured in from prominent figures.
OBSERVERS TIMES recalled earlier that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commended the victory as a result of “hard work, discipline, and unyielding spirit,” acknowledging club chairman Kunle Soname’s crucial role in developing grassroots football and encouraging Remo Stars in their upcoming CAF Champions League campaign.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun celebrated the title as “an unprecedented feat” for the state, recognizing Remo Stars as the first privately owned champions in the league since 2006.
CAF hailed the achievement as a source of “immense pride” for Remo Stars and the southwest region, which last celebrated a league title in 2000. The focus now shifts to Remo Stars’ participation in the Champions League.
Messages of congratulations also came from rival clubs. Rangers International lauded the “extraordinary achievement” built over fifteen years. Ikorodu City FC chairman Sanmi Doherty, representing the growing number of privately funded clubs, celebrated Soname’s vision. Heartland FC’s Emmanuel Amuneke described Remo Stars’ consistency as “unprecedented,” setting a high standard for other privately owned clubs.
Remo Stars still have three matches remaining in their season, including their coronation match at home against Ikorodu City.
