Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has formally accepted his expulsion from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) while urging the party to allow him to leave peacefully.
In a statement personally signed and released on Saturday, Jibrin described his removal by the NNPP Kano State leadership as “a rude shock” but pledged to respect the decision “in good faith and without grudges.”
“I would have loved to stay in the NNPP and continue serving our people despite some differences,” he said. “However, the party has made and announced a decision, and I am therefore obliged to accept it.”
Jibrin defended the TV interviews that led to his expulsion, insisting that his views align with the party’s principles and that dissenting opinions are permitted within the NNPP.
He criticised the lack of due process in his expulsion, pointing out, “No invitation was extended to me to explain myself, neglecting the fair hearing and due process that the party advocates.”
Addressing the allegations of non-payment of dues, Kofa requested the party to provide an invoice, promising prompt settlement and appealing against any court action.
Despite parting ways, he expressed gratitude to the NNPP for their support and called on all involved to part with civility. “Relationships will continue irrespective of party affiliations,” he added.
Looking ahead, Kofa said he would carefully consider his next political move, inviting supporters to join him on his forthcoming journey and vowing a peaceful transition, concluding with, “So help me God.”
