Nigeria’s military says an intensive rescue operation is under way to secure the release of pupils abducted in Oyo State, as authorities intensify efforts to locate the victims and bring those responsible to justice.
The Chief of Army Staff disclosed that troops, alongside other security agencies, have been deployed to conduct coordinated search-and-rescue operations following the abduction, describing the mission as a top national security priority.
Military authorities said intelligence-driven operations are ongoing across affected areas, with personnel combing forests and suspected hideouts in a bid to rescue the children safely while minimising risks to the hostages.
The army chief reaffirmed the military’s commitment to protecting civilians and pledged that every available resource would be deployed until the victims are freed. He also urged members of the public to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and provide credible information that could support the ongoing operation.
The abduction has once again raised concerns over the security of schools in parts of Nigeria, where kidnappings for ransom have become a recurring challenge despite sustained military offensives against armed criminal groups.
Authorities have not disclosed operational details, citing the sensitive nature of the rescue mission, but insist that efforts remain active and focused on ensuring the safe return of the abducted pupils.
