Nigeria has reassigned former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode as ambassador-designate to Germany, replacing him with former presidential aide and senator Ita Enang in a move that comes weeks after reports of diplomatic complications surrounding the appointment.
According to reports by Peoples Gazette, the German government had allegedly declined to approve Fani-Kayode’s posting as ambassador to Berlin, though Nigerian authorities have not publicly confirmed the claim.
Enang, who had earlier been appointed Nigeria’s ambassador to South Africa, is now expected to assume duties at the Nigerian Embassy in Berlin in the coming weeks as ambassador to Germany.
The reports further suggest that Fani-Kayode — widely known as FFK — could instead be redeployed to South Africa, although officials have yet to announce any formal reassignment.
The development highlights ongoing diplomatic reshuffles within Nigeria’s foreign service as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to reposition key political allies in strategic international postings.
