In a landmark event poised to reshape economic ties across Africa, the Nigeria-Egypt Business Forum 2025 convenes today at the prestigious Transcorp Hilton in Abuja. This high-profile gathering aims to ignite strategic collaborations, unlocking a new era of shared prosperity between two of the continent’s economic powerhouses.
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1961, Nigeria and Egypt have nurtured a robust partnership that spans politics, security, trade, diplomacy, education, and cultural exchange. As key players in the African Union, the D-8, and global platforms such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement, both nations wield considerable influence, setting the stage for a transformative economic alliance.
Despite their longstanding camaraderie, trade between these titans of North and West Africa remains underutilised. In 2023, bilateral trade reached $211.2 million, with Egypt exporting $199 million in goods to Nigeria, while Nigeria’s exports to Egypt stood at a modest $12.2 million. The Nigeria-Egypt Business Forum seeks to bridge this gap, fostering innovative trade strategies to maximise mutual benefits.
Egyptian investment in Nigeria is gaining momentum, with industry giants such as Arab Contractors, Elsewedy Cables, Mantrac, and Orascom injecting over $1.4 billion into the Nigerian economy. Bolstering connectivity, EgyptAir operates 15 weekly flights to Lagos, Abuja, and Kano, facilitating seamless business and cultural exchanges.
Today’s forum promises to be a catalyst for deeper collaboration, harnessing the complementary strengths of Nigeria and Egypt to drive sustainable growth and cement their roles as vanguards of African progress.
