Ali Ndume, senator representing Borno South, has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently revive Nigeria’s security emergency response framework and intensify efforts to combat insurgency in the country’s troubled regions.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday, the lawmaker expressed concern over the persistent threat posed by terrorist groups, particularly in the North-East, and urged the federal government to adopt more decisive and coordinated strategies to address the crisis.

Ndume said the current security architecture requires renewed urgency, stressing that a more proactive emergency response system would significantly improve the nation’s ability to respond to attacks and protect vulnerable communities.

He also appealed for stronger international collaboration, specifically calling on the United States government to support Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations. According to him, such support could come in the form of intelligence sharing, military training, and advanced equipment to strengthen the capabilities of Nigerian security forces.

The senator noted that while Nigeria has made progress in its fight against insurgency, the evolving tactics of terrorist groups demand enhanced cooperation with global partners.

Ndume’s comments come amid ongoing security challenges in several parts of the country, with renewed calls from stakeholders for comprehensive reforms and sustained political will to address the root causes of insecurity.

He reiterated that safeguarding lives and restoring stability must remain a top priority for the administration, urging swift action to prevent further escalation of violence.
