Nigerian gospel singers Nathaniel Bassey and Victoria Orenze have expressed deep sorrow following the assassination of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot while addressing a political debate at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.

Kirk, aged 31, was killed in what authorities described as a targeted attack during an outdoor event attended by thousands. His death has sparked widespread condemnation and sparked emotional reactions globally, including from Nigerian gospel circles.

On Instagram, Nathaniel Bassey offered a brief but heartfelt tribute, writing, “Pained. Rest in the Lord, Charlie Kirk.” Bassey’s words conveyed a prayerful plea for peace and comfort for Kirk’s bereaved family.

Victoria Orenze responded with a passionate post, declaring Kirk a “true soldier of Christ” and affirming, “Truth cannot be killed! Truth cannot be silenced! Truth cannot be stopped.” She invoked the event as a powerful call to Christians to stand boldly in their faith amid challenging times, describing the killing as a sign that “we are clearly in the last days.” Orenze also prayed that Kirk’s wife and children be covered by the comfort of the Holy Spirit.

The incident has ignited varied public reactions, with some questioning Kirk’s legacy and beliefs, while many mourn the loss of a young activist whose work impacted political and cultural debates.

Former US President Donald Trump mourned Kirk as “The Great, and even Legendary,” recalling Kirk’s deep connection with America’s youth and extending sympathies to his family.
