In commemoration of the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), the President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Dr. Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, on Saturday led a major humanitarian and educational outreach across military formations in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The initiative aimed to boost the morale of troops, support military families, and honor the wives of fallen heroes.
Dr. Shaibu was accompanied by a special international guest, Wing Commander Martha Lumba Nambahu, wife of the Commander of the Namibian Army, Major General Aktofel Ndengu Nambahu. The delegation was received with colourful cultural displays by students, teachers, and members of the military community.
The outreach began with an inspection of the NAOWA Nursery and Primary School, as well as the NAOWA College in Port Harcourt. During the visit, the NAOWA President interacted with school administrators and students, commending the staff for their dedication to providing quality education. In appreciation, she presented cash gifts and relief packages to both teaching and non-teaching staff.
At the 29 Battalion, Dr. Shaibu addressed members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), urging them to maintain stable homes to support their husbands’ operational efficiency.
“A supportive family is fundamental to the successful discharge of the Nigerian Army’s constitutional duties,” Dr. Shaibu said.
She also held an emotional meeting with the widows of fallen heroes, praising the sacrifices of their late husbands and reassuring them of NAOWA’s continuous support.
The day’s activities concluded at the Military Hospital, Port Harcourt, where Dr. Shaibu and her entourage visited sick women and children, offering words of comfort and donating medical relief materials to aid their recovery.
According to a statement by the Liaison Officer of NAOWA, Captain Jemila Jimoh, the outreach underscores the association’s commitment to complementing the Nigerian Army’s welfare programs through education, healthcare, and empowerment initiatives.
