—Former APC Chieftain Urges Senator David Mark to Block Undemocratic Power Grabs, Demands Transparent Leadership Reforms Ahead of 2027
Salihu Lukman, a coalition behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has issued a stark warning against attempts by political godfathers to seize control of the opposition party, mirroring the internal crises that plagued the APC and PDP.
In a scathing statement titled “ADC and the Prospect of Internal Democracy,”the former APC National Vice Chairman (North-West) accused certain coalition figures of manipulating party structures to install loyalists—a move he described as a prelude to imposing handpicked candidates for the 2027 elections.
“The negative side of our opposition leaders is already at play,” Lukman declared. “They are promoting loyalists as if the 2027 polls are won, ignoring merit, integrity, and broad stakeholder consensus. If unchecked, ADC will become another puppet of godfathers—just like the failed old parties.”
Lukman called on interim ADC Chairman Senator David Mark to urgently enforce democratic reforms, stressing that the party’s credibility hinges on resisting backroom deals and ensuring transparent leadership selection at state and zonal levels. He also demanded clarity on ADC’s manifesto, warning against repeating the APC’s broken promises.
“Nigerians won’t tolerate a rebranded version of the same decay,”he asserted. “If ADC allows godfathers to dictate terms, we might as well boycott 2027.”
The statement further urged grassroots mobilization, rejecting divisive politics and demanding accountability from high-profile defectors—particularly ex-governors—seeking to dominate ADC structures.
Lukman’s challenge to Senator Mark: Prove ADC’s democratic credentials within six months—or risk collapse.
