The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has accused President Bola Tinubu of prioritising political calculations for the 2027 general elections over what it described as the country’s deepening economic and security crises.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the caucus said Nigerians were grappling with soaring inflation, widespread hunger, worsening insecurity and a rising cost of living, while the ruling administration appeared increasingly preoccupied with securing a second term.

The lawmakers argued that the government’s attention should be focused on addressing the hardships facing millions of citizens rather than engaging in early political manoeuvring ahead of the next election cycle.

“The nation is bleeding,” the caucus said, warning that continued neglect of pressing national challenges could further erode public confidence in government institutions.

The opposition lawmakers urged the Tinubu administration to shift its focus towards delivering tangible improvements in the economy, tackling insecurity and restoring hope among Nigerians, instead of pursuing what they described as premature political campaigns.

Their remarks come amid growing political realignments and speculation over the 2027 presidential race, despite more than a year remaining before the next general elections.
