The Lagos State Government has ordered all hospitality businesses, including hotels, nightclubs and event centres, to obtain approval from the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The directive was announced on Thursday through a joint statement signed by the General Manager of LASPA, Mrs Adebisi Adelabu, and her LASTMA counterpart, Mr Bakare Oki Olalekan.
Authorities said the move is aimed at tackling growing concerns over traffic congestion and illegal parking around hospitality venues across the state.
“This directive is to ensure that all operators comply with parking and traffic regulations in Lagos,” the statement read. “Failure to obtain proper approvals will lead to sanctions, in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.”
According to the state government, hotels and clubs are often linked to poor traffic flow and obstruction due to indiscriminate parking and lack of proper planning.
LASPA, which handles parking regulation, and LASTMA, responsible for traffic control, will now work together to ensure all operators in the hospitality industry fall in line.
“Both agencies have different roles, but our goal is the same,” the statement continued. “We want safer, better-organised roads for everyone in Lagos.”
Operators have been advised to register with both agencies and secure the necessary approvals before continuing operations.
