Lagos Declares August 20 as Work-Free Day for Isese Festival

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, as a public holiday for government workers to celebrate the annual Isese Day. The Governor’s announcement was made official through a circular signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, on Monday, August 18, 2025.

The circular, which was sent to top government officials across ministries, agencies, local councils, and parastatals, reads: “This year’s Isese Day Celebration will take place on Wednesday, 20th August, 2025.”

The holiday is part of the Lagos State Government’s ongoing effort to promote its rich indigenous culture, traditions, and spirituality. The circular emphasizes the Governor’s commitment to supporting traditional institutions and celebrating Yoruba heritage, which is at the heart of the Isese Day observance.

The statement further explained that government offices would resume regular work on Thursday, 21st August, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. All accounting officers have been urged to make the public aware of the holiday.
