Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, says he will not reverse his decision to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 presidential election.
Mr Adeleke, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said his position remained unchanged despite political differences and criticism that may arise within and outside his party.
The governor’s endorsement of President Tinubu has attracted attention because of the political rivalry between the PDP and the president’s All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr Adeleke said his decision was based on his assessment of the president’s leadership and the need to support what he considers to be in the interest of the country.
“I will not backtrack on my endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election,” the governor said.
His position could further reshape political alliances ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly in Osun, where the PDP and APC remain major political forces.
The governor has previously maintained that political differences should not prevent leaders from recognising policies or actions they believe are beneficial to Nigerians.
With the 2027 election drawing closer, Mr Adeleke’s stance is likely to fuel further debate within the PDP and among opposition politicians over the party’s presidential strategy.
President Tinubu has yet to formally begin the 2027 campaign, but political manoeuvring and endorsements ahead of the election have already intensified across the country.
