Just One Month: “Corruption will vanish in first month or I will resign” – Rotimi Amaechi

Former Minister of Transportation and 2027 presidential aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi, has made a bold promise to Nigerians: he will eradicate corruption within the first month of his presidency, or he will resign from office.

Speaking during an online discussion on X Spaces titled “Weekend Politics,” Amaechi stated that if elected, he would ensure corruption “will disappear.” He emphasized the seriousness of his promise, saying, “If it doesn’t disappear, I will tender my resignation letter, and I will leave. I’m not joking.”

Amaechi also used the platform to critique the current government’s handling of fuel subsidy funds. He alleged that the benefits of the subsidy are being shared among a few federal officials and state governors. He further claimed these officials are engaging in “lavish lifestyles,” while many Nigerians continue to face economic hardship.
He pledged to supervise the government closely and ensure that the funds saved from subsidy removal are redirected to benefit ordinary Nigerians, which he believes would help reduce poverty. Amaechi reiterated his opposition to reintroducing the fuel subsidy, describing it as detrimental to the nation’s economy.

The former Rivers State governor also criticized the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing the current chairman, Professor Yakubu Mahmood, as the “worst” in the commission’s history. He additionally challenged the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bar Nyeson Wike, to walk the streets of Port Harcourt to gauge public support.
