Vice President Kashim Shettima on Sunday departed Abuja for Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he will represent Nigeria at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The high-level regional summit is expected to bring together leaders from across West Africa to deliberate on pressing issues affecting the sub-region, including security, democratic governance, economic integration, and political stability.

Shettima’s participation underscores Nigeria’s continued commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and advancing collective efforts to tackle the growing challenges confronting the ECOWAS bloc.

The summit is also expected to review developments across member states and chart a common path towards enhancing peace, stability, and sustainable development in West Africa.

Nigeria, as one of ECOWAS’ founding members and largest economies, is expected to play a pivotal role in the discussions aimed at deepening regional integration and fostering collective responses to emerging threats.
