Security personnel barricaded the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday as the former governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai, was brought before the court for arraignment on corruption charges.

Heavily armed operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, the Mobile Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) took up strategic positions as early as 7:00 a.m. around the court premises, located along the old Nigerian Defence Academy road.

The heightened security led to restricted vehicular movement, with motorists forced into a single lane from the Ungwan Sarki axis through Kawo, resulting in significant traffic disruptions in the area.

El-Rufai’s arraignment follows a formal announcement by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which confirmed that the former governor would be brought before the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

In a statement issued on Monday, the ICPC’s Head of Media and Public Communications, John Odey, said El-Rufai would be arraigned alongside one Joel Adoga in suit number FHC/KD/73/2026.

According to the commission, the charges include the alleged conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering.
