The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised the alarm after gunmen allegedly attacked the convoy of its senatorial candidate in Edo State, leaving one supporter with gunshot injuries.

The incident, according to the party, occurred when the convoy came under attack by suspected thugs allegedly linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The ADC alleged that the attackers opened fire on members of the convoy, forcing those travelling with the candidate to seek safety.

One supporter was reportedly hit by a bullet during the attack and was subsequently taken for medical treatment.

The party condemned the incident, describing it as an attempt to intimidate its candidates and supporters ahead of the forthcoming political activities in the state.

The ADC called on security agencies to investigate the attack, identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

The party also urged its supporters to remain calm, saying it would continue to pursue its political campaign through peaceful and democratic means.

The APC has yet to publicly respond to the allegations.

The development comes amid heightened political tensions in parts of the country, with political parties increasingly calling on security agencies to protect candidates and supporters during campaigns and other political engagements.
