In the latest bout of back-room politics inside the All Progressives Congress, ex-Kogi governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello sat down with the APC national chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, at the party’s Abuja secretariat on Friday.

People inside the building say the talks were framed as a move to tighten the party’s bolts before the next round of elections. Over the closed-door session the two men hammered away at three main issues: patching up grumbling members—especially in the North-Central—linking state-level wins to the APC’s national game plan, and using Bello’s pull with younger voters to widen the party’s base.

Chairman Yilwatda, according to aides, thanked Bello squarely for sticking with the “Renewed Hope” agenda since leaving office.

Once the meeting ended, Bello brushed it off as “routine but vital,” insisting such chats keep the APC pointed in the same direction. The sit-down is the latest sign that the party wants its house in order before Nigeria’s next electoral cycle heats up.
