Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has publicly declared his support for the “Rainbow Coalition,” a political alliance led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
In a major political shift, Fubara also endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term and backed Kingsley Chinda as his preferred successor for the Rivers State governorship in 2027.
The Governor made these declarations on Wednesday during the groundbreaking and foundation-laying ceremony of the Rivien Medical Industry project in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
In a video of his remarks, the Governor announced his return to his “political family,” urging his supporters to align with the Rainbow Coalition—a cross-party alliance comprising APC loyalists, factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other groups supporting the Tinubu administration.
“We have made peace in the state, and I am supporting our rainbow party, or rainbow coalition,” Fubara stated.
Affirming his loyalty to the Presidency, he added, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is our president, and he’s the one we are supporting. Kingsley Chinda is the governorship candidate that I am supporting. Anybody who believes in me will support every candidate under the rainbow.”
The Governor appealed to his loyalists to stop waiting for political appointments or individual benefits before joining the fold, noting that he had already fully reconciled with Wike’s political camp.
“For those of you saying, ‘Fubara, let’s stay, we want to collect something before we run,’ there is nothing to collect,” the Governor cautioned. “I am already in the family; I’ve gone back to our family. So please, wherever you are, give your total support to that coalition.”
He emphasized that the era of political infighting in the state was over, describing the current phase as a time for peace and progress.
“We need to move forward. The time of war is over; it’s time for peace. This peace is taking us to another level. What you lose here, you’ll gain in another place. That is life,” he said.
Governor Fubara also issued a stern warning to supporters against using his name to promote political activities outside the coalition or to foster division.
“I want this to be made clear to everybody. Don’t go anywhere and say you are supporting ‘Fubara, Fubara.’ No. My position is clear. If you are not hearing well, use cotton wool or open your ears so it enters well. I am not party to anything that will bring disunity to this state. I’ve done what I need to do. For now, we are moving forward,” he declared.
The Governor’s remarks come months after his high-profile withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in May 2026, a move he attributed to “deep reflection and consultations.”
His alignment with the Rainbow Coalition signals a definitive end to the prolonged political crisis that had previously polarized Rivers State and pitted the Governor’s camp against his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
