The Federal Government has significantly reduced the maximum reimbursable imprest available to senior public officials as part of a broader effort to strengthen fiscal discipline and curb government expenditure.
Under the revised policy, ministers will now be entitled to a maximum reimbursable imprest of N700,000, marking a substantial reduction in the amount they can access for official contingency expenses.
Permanent secretaries and directors-general will have their imprest capped at N500,000, while directors and heads of departments will be limited to N300,000. Heads of federal formations in states, alongside other authorised imprest holders, will now operate with a maximum ceiling of N100,000.
The new limits form part of the Federal Government’s ongoing measures to promote prudent management of public funds, improve accountability, and reduce the cost of governance across ministries, departments and agencies.
