•Group Questions Atiku’s Motive, Cites ‘Self-Serving Politicians Who Lost Relevance’
••Protest is Ill-Timed, Could Jeopardize Renewed Judicial Efforts

A group of Igbo professionals based in the United States, Njiko Amaka, has strongly condemned the upcoming “Free Nnamdi Kanu Now” protest scheduled for October 20, accusing its supporters
including former presidential candidates Omoyele Sowore (AAC) and Atiku Abubakar (PDP)—of using it as a political ploy to derail the detained IPOB leader’s ongoing trial.

In a statement issued Tuesday by Chairman Chief Emeka Ejidike and Secretary Chief Okey Anosike, Njiko Amaka alleged that the protest is being driven by “self-serving politicians who lost relevance at the polls” and are now attempting to exploit Kanu’s situation for 2027 political gain. The group specifically questioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s motivation, noting his lack of involvement in protests for issues within his own region, and compared Kanu’s case to that of detained northern militant Mohammed Usman (al-Barnawi).

Njiko Amaka warned that the protest comes at “the wrongest of times” and could jeopardize renewed judicial efforts to expedite Kanu’s trial. They urged Nigerians to reject the initiative and instead support ongoing political efforts, citing recent comments by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah hinting at a possible political solution. The group emphasized that Ndigbo have elected leaders capable of pleading Kanu’s cause, warning against “fifth columnists” disrupting progress.
