The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has withdrawn its earlier claim of a fire outbreak at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, saying preliminary investigations found that no fire incident occurred at the facility.
In an initial advisory issued on Saturday, the authority reported that a section of Terminal 2 had been engulfed by fire, stating that its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) had been deployed to contain the situation. FAAN also assured the public that there were no casualties or loss of life.
However, in a subsequent statement, the authority reversed its position, explaining that preliminary findings had established that the incident was not a fire outbreak as earlier reported.
While FAAN did not immediately provide further details on the nature of the incident, it reassured passengers, airport users and stakeholders that the situation had been assessed and that there was no fire emergency at the airport.
The clarification came shortly after the initial advisory sparked concern among travellers and members of the public, with many seeking updates on the status of operations at Nigeria’s busiest international gateway.
FAAN said it remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of airport users and will continue to provide accurate information as more details become available.
