Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, sparked a brief but dramatic moment on Saturday after she cautioned Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to stop singing during an official programme, warning that she would switch off his microphone if he continued.
The incident occurred at a public event in Abuja, where dignitaries—including state governors, ministers and senior government officials—had gathered for a federal ceremony. Governor Adeleke, known for his jovial public persona and frequent musical interludes, broke into a short song while delivering his remarks.
However, his light-hearted display was immediately interrupted by the First Lady, who leaned towards the microphone and firmly stated: “Stop singing or I will switch off your microphone.”
The remark drew mixed reactions from the audience. While some attendees laughed softly at the exchange, others appeared taken aback by the unexpected reprimand.
Governor Adeleke, maintaining his usual cheerful composure, paused briefly before continuing his remarks in a more formal tone.
The moment quickly gained traction online, with clips of the exchange circulating widely and sparking debate among Nigerians. Some social media users viewed the First Lady’s comment as an attempt to maintain decorum at an official gathering, while others criticised it as unnecessarily abrasive.
Despite the brief tension, the event proceeded without further incident, and both dignitaries later participated in group photographs and closing formalities.
