The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has approved the appointment of new officials to occupy strategic statutory positions and specialised institutions across the regional bloc for the 2026–2030 tenure.
The appointments were endorsed during the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, held in Freetown, Sierra Leone, as part of efforts to strengthen the organisation’s leadership and enhance its capacity to address regional priorities.
According to ECOWAS, the newly appointed officials will assume responsibility for leading key statutory bodies and specialised institutions tasked with advancing regional integration, economic development, peace and security, governance, and institutional reforms across West Africa.
The appointments form part of the bloc’s leadership renewal process aimed at ensuring continuity, efficiency and effective implementation of ECOWAS policies and programmes over the next four years.
The regional body said the new office holders are expected to play a pivotal role in driving its strategic agenda, including promoting economic cooperation, improving regional security, deepening democratic governance and fostering sustainable development among its member states.
Further details, including the identities of the appointees and their respective portfolios, are expected to be released by the ECOWAS Commission.
