Bayo Ojulari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has raised serious concerns about threats to his life and the safety of his top management team, as he pushes forward with bold reforms in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Speaking candidly on Thursday at NNPCL’s Abuja headquarters during a meeting with a delegation from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, led by President Festus Osifo, Ojulari admitted he’s no politician but is ready to get a crash course in the game. “I’m not hiding from anyone. I’m not a politician, but I’ll have to brush up on politics. For me, it’s all about a ascendancy plan, and I’m ready to learn,” he declared.

Ojulari revealed that his efforts to revive Nigeria’s struggling refineries, under orders from President Bola Tinubu, have ruffled feathers among powerful groups plotting his ouster. Undeterred by what he called intimidation tactics, the NNPCL chief vowed to stay laser-focused on delivering the refinery rehabilitation plan.

Despite the looming dangers, Ojulari remains steadfast, determined to see the reforms through and transform the nation’s oil industry.
