Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, into custody following his detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), authoritative sources have disclosed.
According to multiple insiders familiar with the development, el-Rufai was transferred into the custody of the secret police on Wednesday night at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where he had reportedly spent two nights undergoing interrogation.
Sources indicated that during his questioning by EFCC investigators, several attempts were made to obtain a written statement from the former governor. However, he was said to have declined to provide one.
While the precise grounds for the intervention by the DSS remain unclear, the development marks a significant twist in the ongoing scrutiny involving the former governor.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the DSS nor the EFCC had issued an official statement regarding the transfer of custody or the circumstances surrounding the matter.
The situation is expected to generate heightened political and legal interest, given el-Rufai’s prominence in Nigeria’s political landscape and his tenure as governor of Kaduna State.
