Dangote Refinery Rolls Back Petrol Price Hike, Calms Market Nerves

Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery has reversed its earlier decision to increase the ex-depot price of petrol, opting instead to retain the rate at N1,275 per litre.

The move cancels a previously announced N75 hike that would have pushed the price to N1,350 per litre, effectively restoring the former pricing structure at the loading gantry.

Industry operators say the reversal has brought immediate relief to downstream marketers, many of whom had begun adjusting their strategies in anticipation of a higher pricing cycle.

Traders across the sector had already started repositioning following signals of an increase, raising concerns about potential ripple effects on fuel distribution and retail pricing.

Analysts note that the refinery’s decision is likely to stabilise short-term market expectations, easing pressure in a sector often sensitive to abrupt pricing shifts.
