Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused Siminalayi Fubara of reneging on a political understanding reached during a presidential intervention aimed at defusing tensions in Rivers State.

Wike said Bola Ahmed Tinubu had stepped in during impeachment proceedings against Fubara, urging a truce to stabilise the state’s political climate.

According to Wike, the governor agreed to de-escalate the crisis and indicated he would not seek a second term as part of the peace arrangement.

“President Tinubu intervened in the impeachment process and called for withdrawal. The governor said he was ready for peace and no longer interested in contesting again,” Wike said. “Now, after the impeachment was withdrawn, you are playing smart on what was agreed before the president.”

Fubara has not publicly responded to the allegation. The exchange reflects lingering tensions in Rivers State, where political rivalries continue to test the durability of recent reconciliation efforts.
