The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that voter registration will resume in Plateau State this August, as part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Mohammed Sadiq, made the announcement during a press briefing in Jos on Thursday.

According to Sadiq, online pre-registration opens on 18 August 2025, while physical registration will kick off on 25 August at INEC’s state office and all 17 local government area offices across Plateau.

“Voter registration is at the core of credible elections. The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) gives eligible citizens the opportunity to register, update their details, or replace lost or damaged voter cards,” he said.

The REC noted that the exercise targets Nigerians aged 18 and above who have never registered, those seeking to transfer their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), correct errors in their details, or replace misplaced cards.

Registration will take place Mondays to Fridays between 9am and 3pm, he added.

Sadiq explained that the online platform (www.cvr.inecnigeria.org) allows registrants to start the process by submitting their personal details digitally, before completing the process in person.

He cautioned against using cyber cafés or third-party agents, stating that the portal is entirely free and accessible via any internet-enabled phone or device.

“There are no fees, no scratch cards, and no approval for any registration centres outside INEC offices,” he clarified.

As of the 2023 elections, Plateau had over 2.7 million registered voters, with a 96.3% PVC collection rate. However, more than 100,000 PVCs remained uncollected.

INEC urged eligible residents not to miss this new window.

“No eligible Nigerian will be left behind,” Sadiq assured, noting that the CVR process aims to eliminate overcrowding, improve voter access, and strengthen democratic participation.

He thanked stakeholders and the media for their ongoing support in voter education and civic mobilisation.
