Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved a N10,000 monthly salary supplement for all state and local government workers, effective from April.
The governor announced the three-month intervention on Monday during an event in Ibadan, the state capital. He stated that the measure is designed to cushion the economic impact of the recent fuel price increase on workers.
“I’m happy to announce that all workers in Oyo State and the local government, starting from April, will be given N10,000 in addition to their monthly salary as petrol and transportation support—at least for the first three months,” Makinde said.
He noted that the flat-rate payment may be extended beyond the initial period if the economic situation does not improve.
The governor also hinted that the support would not be limited to public sector employees. “Those who are not working with the Oyo State government may also benefit from it. We will handle it properly to ensure it is all-inclusive,” he added.
Makinde described the initiative as part of his administration’s focus on ensuring continuity as he approaches the end of his tenure.
