Minister of Works, David Umahi, has dismissed claims by former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke that work on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway has stalled around Epe, insisting that construction has progressed significantly beyond that point.
Speaking during an inspection of ongoing sections of the flagship infrastructure project, Umahi said the highway has advanced well past Epe, contrary to assertions suggesting otherwise. He maintained that the Federal Government remains committed to delivering the ambitious road project as scheduled.
The minister stressed that visible progress has been made across multiple sections of the coastal corridor, describing the project as one of the country’s most transformative road infrastructure developments. He noted that construction activities are continuing simultaneously at different locations to ensure timely completion.
Umahi’s remarks came in response to comments by Donald Duke, who had questioned the pace and extent of work on the project, suggesting that construction had not progressed beyond the Epe axis.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Umahi urged Nigerians to rely on verifiable facts and ongoing developments on the ground rather than speculation, adding that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway remains a priority project aimed at improving connectivity, boosting economic growth and opening up new investment opportunities along Nigeria’s coastline.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is one of the Federal Government’s flagship infrastructure initiatives, designed to link coastal states, facilitate trade, enhance transportation and stimulate economic development across the southern corridor.
