The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) has pledged to reposition Nigeria’s Armed Forces for greater effectiveness, professionalism and operational readiness, signalling a renewed push to confront the country’s evolving security challenges.
The CDS made the commitment during a recent engagement with senior military officers, where he outlined plans aimed at strengthening inter-service cooperation, enhancing combat efficiency and restoring public confidence in the military. The event, captured in a series of official photographs, underscored the leadership’s resolve to drive institutional reforms across the armed forces.
According to the CDS, the repositioning agenda will focus on improved training, intelligence-led operations and better welfare for personnel, stressing that a motivated and well-equipped force remains critical to national security. He also emphasised the importance of discipline, accountability and adherence to democratic principles in military operations.
The defence chief noted that modern security threats require adaptive strategies, adding that the military would continue to leverage technology, strategic partnerships and local intelligence to counter terrorism, banditry and other forms of violent crime.
Military analysts say the renewed commitment reflects growing pressure on the armed forces to deliver measurable results amid persistent insecurity in parts of the country. They believe that sustained reforms and clear operational direction could help reposition the military as a more agile and responsive institution.
The CDS reassured Nigerians of the military’s unwavering loyalty to the constitution and its determination to safeguard lives, property and the nation’s territorial integrity.
