The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared a nationwide Black Sunday in honour of victims of the country’s worsening insecurity, describing the persistent violence as a national tragedy that has plunged thousands of families into grief.
The association called on churches across Nigeria to observe the solemn day in solidarity with victims and their families, as the country continues to grapple with relentless attacks by terrorists, bandits and kidnappers.
CAN said the worsening security crisis has claimed countless lives, displaced communities and left many families shattered, warning that the scale of bloodshed demands urgent and decisive action from authorities.
The Christian body urged Nigerians to unite in prayer and reflection while renewing calls for stronger measures to end the wave of killings and restore peace across the country.
The declaration comes amid growing concern over the escalating insecurity affecting several parts of Nigeria, with repeated attacks continuing to fuel fears over the safety of lives and property.
