An Israeli naval submarine was observed speeding out of Haifa’s port waters early Saturday as the Iranian military launched a retaliatory assault that shook the strategic northern port and raised fears of a widening regional conflict.

Eyewitnesses and open‑source imagery showed the submarine leaving Haifa at high speed amid reports of explosions and air‑raid sirens across the city. The movement of the military vessel comes as Tehran responded to a barrage of Israeli and U.S. strikes on Iranian soil earlier today, marking a dramatic escalation in the long‑running tensions between the two regional powers.

Israeli authorities confirmed that their forces initiated a pre‑emptive strike deep inside Iran, targeting military and strategic sites, including nuclear facilities in major cities. The attacks were described by Jerusalem as necessary to thwart what it called imminent threats to national security, though diplomatic efforts had been underway in recent weeks to avert a full‑scale confrontation.

In response, Iran’s armed forces unleashed waves of ballistic missiles toward key Israeli cities, including Haifa and Tel Aviv, triggering widespread air‑raid alerts. Emergency services reported shrapnel damage and fires in parts of Haifa, though initial casualty figures remain unclear.

The swift submarine departure has raised alarm among defence analysts, who see it as part of broader military repositioning amid fears of further retaliation by Tehran. Haifa hosts a significant portion of Israel’s naval capabilities, and any disruption to operations there could have far‑reaching implications for regional security and maritime traffic in the eastern Mediterranean.

Local residents described a chaotic scene as Iran’s missiles cut across the northern sky, with families rushing to shelters and military vehicles reinforcing key access points throughout the city. Despite the urgency, Israeli officials have thus far declined to comment publicly on the submarine’s mission or destination.

International reactions to the flare‑up have been mixed. Several Middle Eastern states called for calm and urged both sides to return to diplomatic engagement, warning that a broader conflict could destabilise the region further. U.S. officials, while reiterating support for Israel’s security, have also emphasised the importance of avoiding an all‑out war.

As the situation continues to develop, world capitals are closely monitoring the escalating confrontation, with fears that an already volatile standoff could spiral into an even larger regional conflict.
