Two powerful explosions shook parts of the Kingdom of Bahrain on Saturday evening, triggering large plumes of smoke and a major fire at a shipyard in the Gulf island nation’s industrial zone.
Local witnesses reported the blasts — which occurred in rapid succession — and emergency sirens echoed across residential areas as authorities scrambled to respond to the unfolding incident. Flames were visible rising above the site of the second blast, believed to have originated within a shipyard facility where firefighting teams are battling a spreading blaze. (Reporter sources have not yet confirmed casualties or specific causes.)
Security forces and civil defence crews have cordoned off the area, urging residents to avoid the vicinity and follow instructions from emergency services. Broadcast alerts and mobile notifications were issued as the situation developed, signalling heightened concern among authorities trying to contain the damage and investigate the source of the detonations.
Details remain limited, and neither the Bahraini government nor international agencies have yet confirmed the nature of the explosions. Officials say inquiries are underway to determine whether the blasts were accidental, linked to industrial activity at the shipyard, or the result of deliberate sabotage.
The incident comes amid broader regional tensions that have seen intermittent alerts and safety warnings in the skies over Gulf states in recent months, including public siren activations in Bahrain last year in response to unidentified threats.
Further updates are expected as investigators and civil defence authorities release more information.
