Nigeria’s Supreme Court has distanced itself from a publication issued by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) regarding the issuance of secured tamper-proof seals for Notaries Public, urging legal practitioners and members of the public to disregard the notice.
In a statement, the apex court clarified that the publication does not represent its position or authority on matters relating to the regulation and issuance of notarial seals.
The court stressed that any information concerning Notaries Public and the administration of notarial services must emanate from the appropriate judicial authorities, warning against reliance on unauthorised directives that could mislead practitioners and the public.
The development highlights ongoing concerns over the proper administration and oversight of notarial practices in Nigeria, as the Supreme Court reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the legal profession.
