Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu, declaring that the courts cannot be used to shield him from the judgement of Nigerians in the 2027 general election.

Atiku made the remarks in a statement reacting to the political and legal developments surrounding the African Democratic Congress (ADC), amid growing tensions ahead of the next presidential election.

The former vice-president’s comments appeared to underscore his position that political legitimacy should ultimately be determined by the electorate rather than through judicial interventions.

He maintained that Nigerians have the constitutional right to decide who governs them through the ballot box, suggesting that no legal manoeuvre could permanently override the will of the people.

The statement comes amid heightened political activities and controversies surrounding the ADC’s leadership and its preparations for the 2027 elections.

Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, has remained a prominent opposition figure and a vocal critic of the Tinubu administration.

His latest remarks are likely to intensify the political exchanges between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition figures as political alignments and preparations for 2027 gather momentum.
