The loss can be painful, but it can also instruct.
There are moments in life when everything seems to happen at once. Moments when the weight of what you are going through makes it difficult to imagine what tomorrow will look like. I experienced one of those seasons, and looking back, I can say that the past year changed me in ways I never anticipated.
On the 21st of August 2025, I lost my mother.
While conveying her remains home for burial, we were involved in a tragic accident that claimed the life of a dear sister. Another sister sustained multiple fractures, while I suffered a head injury that kept me away from my normal life for weeks. My recovery was a difficult journey, and I was not discharged from the hospital until the 23rd of October 2025.
I was still trying to come to terms with these losses and regain my strength when another painful experience came.
On the 5th of November 2025, I was dismissed from my job after over 18 years of service in the electricity distribution sector.
Eighteen years.
Years of commitment, professional experience, sacrifices and contributions. Yet, the manner in which my employment came to an end, and the token I received in recognition of those years, left me deeply disappointed and hurt.
It was difficult to process. After everything that had happened, I found myself facing another unexpected loss, this time involving a career I had dedicated a significant part of my life to building.
I could have allowed the experience to consume me. I could have become bitter, withdrawn or convinced myself that the best years of my professional life were behind me.
But somewhere within me, I knew I could not allow my circumstances to become the final definition of my life.
I had lost so much, but I had not lost the ability to begin again.
I started looking beyond the limitations of what I had known.
might never have explored if life had continued along the familiar path I had built for myself.
For years, I had acquired experience, witnessed the challenges within the electricity sector and understood the difficulties that could arise between electricity consumers and service providers. I had seen the importance of proper engagement, technical understanding, regulatory compliance and effective dispute resolution.
I began to see an opportunity to put that experience to a different use.
That decision eventually gave birth to Energy Dispute Solutions Limited (EDISOL), which I founded and registered on the 15th of December 2025.
EDISOL was not born out of a desire to dwell on the circumstances that brought me to that point. It was born from a decision to put my experience to work, explore a new possibility and build something meaningful.
Today, EDISOL is focused on electricity billing and metering audits, energy dispute resolution, technical assessments and energy consultancy. We are committed to helping bridge the gap between electricity consumers and service providers through professional engagement, impartiality and a commitment to fair outcomes.
What I once saw as the unexpected end of a long professional journey became the beginning of another.
I must also acknowledge the place of faith in this journey. Through every loss, every disappointment and every uncertainty, I chose to hand over my affairs to Allah. My faith has taught me that being tested does not mean being abandoned. There were moments when I did not have all the answers, but I held on to the belief that there was still a reason to keep moving.
I am not sharing this story because I want anyone to pity me. Neither am I suggesting that pain is easy to overcome or that every difficult experience immediately reveals a new opportunity.
I am sharing it because I know there are people who may be experiencing their own difficult seasons. Some have lost loved ones. Some have lost opportunities, careers, businesses or relationships they thought would last. Others are struggling to understand why something they gave so much of themselves to ended the way it did.
If there is one thing this past year has taught me, it is that an unexpected ending does not have to be the end of your story.
Injustice did not define me. Loss did not destroy me. Rejection did not take away my ability to contribute, create or build.
I am still learning. I am still growing. And I understand that building something new comes with its own challenges. But I have come to appreciate that sometimes, life takes you away from what you have always known and places you on a path you never imagined taking.
Today, one year after that painful dismissal, I look at how far I have come with gratitude. Not because the journey was easy, but because I found the strength to keep going.
To anyone going through a difficult season, please do not give up on yourself. Keep pushing. Keep believing. Keep reinventing yourself. Do not allow someone else’s decision or injustice to become the limitation of your future.
You may lose something you thought you could never live without and discover something you never knew you could become.
Persist in your efforts. Trust Allah. Keep moving. There is no giving up until you have given your best.
And remember, it is not over until it is over.
