Army troops and DSS agents have nabbed a suspected gunrunner hauling 884 rounds of ammunition through Kano, security sources confirmed this
Troops from 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, teamed up with Department of State Services operatives to stop the woman at about 3:00 a.m. on 14 March after receiving a tip-off that arms were moving through the city.
Officials said the suspect was ferrying 7.62 mm special rounds from Plateau State to bandits in Zamfara, travelling with her ten-year-old daughter in the vehicle.
A quick check reportedly turned up 884 live rounds. Investigators claim the woman admitted she had taken two similar trips before and was promised ₦50,000 up front, with more cash due on delivery.
“She was contracted by criminal elements to move the ammunition to Zamfara, where banditry and armed violence are rife,” a security source said.
The arrest highlights how trafficking networks increasingly rely on civilian couriers to shift bullets and guns through transit hubs like Kano, feeding armed groups in Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto and neighbouring states.
The DSS has taken custody of the suspect and the ammunition for deeper probes aimed at mapping the supply chain and nabbing other players, officials added.
