The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has underscored the significance of the West African Soldiers’ Anniversary (WASA) beyond its cultural origins, describing it as a deliberate morale‑building and unifying platform within his Command Philosophy’s Robust Administration pillar.

Speaking to attendees, Lt. Gen. Shaibu highlighted that the programme fosters esprit de corps, inclusiveness, and a shared identity among soldiers, which directly improve operational effectiveness. He reaffirmed the ongoing implementation of welfare policies, institutional reforms, and strengthened support structures designed to embed a “Soldier First” culture that benefits personnel and their families.

Lt. Gen. Shaibu emphasized that a united and well‑motivated military force is better equipped to tackle terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and other security challenges facing the nation.
