The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is poised for a sweeping victory in Plateau State in the 2027 presidential election, with National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda projecting that the party will deliver more than one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Addressing party stakeholders from the Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency, Yilwatda said the state’s political landscape had shifted decisively in the APC’s favour since 2023, describing Plateau as a “changed territory”.
According to him, the party has consolidated its strength across the state, attracting key political figures who were previously in opposition, including Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s commissioners, local government chairmen and several senior appointees.
“Come 2027, I can assure you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will pull some of his highest votes here, both in numbers and in percentage,” Yilwatda said. “There is no ward, no polling unit in PKK that we will not win. Politics is a game of numbers, and our target is over one million votes.”
He described PKK as the APC’s traditional stronghold, noting that the party swept most major elective positions there in 2023 — from the presidency to the Senate, House of Representatives and state Assembly seats.
Yilwatda also pointed to what he called unprecedented unity between the state and federal APC leadership, stressing that the party now controls the governorship, the national chairmanship, nearly all legislative seats at both state and federal levels, and the majority of local government positions in Plateau.
In a shift of tone, the APC chairman announced that the party would adopt a new approach to its relationship with the state government, opting for private engagement rather than public criticism to ensure what he described as “constructive support for good governance”.
On the national stage, Yilwatda highlighted the APC’s wider dominance, boasting more than 70 senators, nearly 300 members of the House of Representatives and 29 governors. He added that the party was implementing internal reforms, including digital membership registration and plans for a new national secretariat in Abuja.
As Nigeria edges closer to the 2027 election cycle, the APC’s aggressive mobilisation in Plateau signals what could become one of the most closely watched battlegrounds in the northern region.
