Talks between Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have reached an advanced stage, with party insiders saying the governor is on the verge of formally joining the opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sources within the ADC told Native Reporters that preparations are under way to receive the governor, describing the development as “a major realignment” that could reshape political calculations in the South-West and nationally.

Though Makinde has not made a public declaration, ADC officials say discussions have been “fruitful and far-reaching”, raising expectations that his defection may be announced soon.

Political observers note that Makinde’s anticipated move would significantly shift the region’s power dynamics, particularly as parties begin strategic positioning for the next election cycle.

“The ADC is set to welcome Governor Makinde, and the engagement has reached a mature stage,” a party figure familiar with the talks said. “His arrival will certainly alter the landscape ahead of 2027.”

If confirmed, Makinde’s entry into the ADC would mark one of the most consequential defections since the end of the 2023 elections, potentially boosting the party’s influence and widening its national profile.
