A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami, alongside his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, and his wife, Bashir Asabe, in a high-profile case that continues to draw national attention.

Delivering the ruling on Wednesday, Justice Emeka Nwite approved bail for all three defendants, setting the conditions at ₦500m each. The court also outlined additional requirements, including the presentation of sureties of equal value, as part of measures to ensure their compliance with ongoing judicial proceedings.

The charges against the former justice minister and his family members have not yet been fully disclosed in open court, but the case forms part of a wider clampdown on alleged financial and administrative misconduct involving former senior government officials.

Justice Nwite emphasised that bail does not equate to an acquittal and that the trial would proceed in line with established legal processes.

The ruling marks the latest development in what is expected to be a closely watched trial, with the public, legal analysts, and political observers monitoring the implications for Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts.

Neither Malami nor his legal team has issued a statement following the court’s decision, while federal prosecutors say they are preparing for the next phase of the proceedings.
