Edward Kalu Okocha, a senior All Progressives Congress (APC) figure in Abia State, has congratulated former Deputy Governor Ude Oko Chukwu on his recent defection to the Labour Party but advised him not to contest the Abia North Senatorial seat in 2027. Speaking from Ameke Abiriba, Okocha described Oko Chukwu’s defection as “a bold and strategic move” reflecting his dedication to the advancement of Abia State and specifically Abia North.
Okocha emphasized that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has already positioned Abia North favourably in the National Assembly through distinguished representation and seniority.
“Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has been delivering impactful projects and empowering our zone. His experience and seniority make him a prime candidate for key roles such as the Senate Presidency, which would be transformative for our people,” he noted.
Recalling past political strategy, Okocha mentioned how he backed Oko Chukwu’s third-term bid in 2010 despite opposition, a decision that yielded critical infrastructure like the skill acquisition centre in Abiriba and elevated Oko Chukwu to Deputy Governor.
“That same strategic thinking is crucial now. Rallying behind Senator Kalu for re-election will pave the way for greater responsibilities and development for Abia North,” he insisted.
